We know, the Front End Form Extension Plugin is not as intuitive as it could be. And we will improve this flow.

For now, here are the steps to get started after installing and configuring the Plugin.

For context we are going to use a basic example: a profile form where users can add information about themselves and upload a file.

  1. Install and Activate Advanced Custom Fields Plugin by Elliot Condon.
  2. Install Custom Post Type UI.
  3. Create a Post Type called “Extended User Profiles”
  4. Navigate to Custom Fields.
  5. Select Add New
  6. Create the fields you want, you can use our Front End File Uploader Extension to add a field that allows visitors to upload files.
  7. Save your Custom Field Group.
  8. Navigate to Custom Fields.
  9. You’ll notice a new column called Shortcode. This is added by the Front End Form Plugin. Copy that.
  10. Navigate to the Page, or other Post Type, that you want to paste the Shortcode into to display your newly created form on.
  11. Paste it, and replace the line that says “post-type-slug” with “extended-user-profiles”. Notice that slug, as it’s called, matches the Post Type Name – just converted to all lowercase and spaces replaced with dashes.
  12. Save your page and viola. Your form will appear on the front end and submissions will be saved into your Post Type.

We know, you might still feel a little lost, and this this is a little complicated. We’ll get a video walk through up as soon as possible, and we’ll automate steps 1, 2, 3 and then 4 and 5 based on what you enter in 7. Then also automate the generation of the slug in step 11.

If you find that these instructions don’t apply to your use case or need clarity just submit a support request and we’ll update it ASAP.

Thanks for using Front End Form Extension for Advanced Custom Fields!
